Bamboo skid plate FAQ

Does Bamboo last longer than standard plastic skids?

No, it last 80% as HDPE and 60% as UHDPE.  But since our bamboo skids are thicker, you are getting more surface resistance area by the time you get to the thickness of standard plastic skids.  This is why I recommend bedding in the pad.

Why are they 1/2" to 9/16" thick.

Availability of source material.  I tried to thin it out, but the time and effort were really of no value.

Why must the skids be glued to the deck?

For the same reason we don't staple 7 plies of maple together.  Glue gives strength where it is needed.  Early testing showed cracking and splitting, until i used adhesive.

I recommend Shoe Goo at this time, as it is removable with a razor blade.  Gorilla glue is great too, but I have not yet tried to remove it.   I will update this when I can.

Why are you doing this?  Sounds like a P.I.A.

Well, with skateboarding being like the number one cause of Maple deforestation and every plastic wearable item on a deck leaves minuscule amounts of plastic and urethane to wash in to our water supply and food chain.... If I could help, just a little with a low carbon footprint, biodegradable material... Then why not.

Warranty

I will warranty any skid against breakage for 15 days if you followed the installation instructions to the letter and used the proper adhesive.  You only pay shipping costs.

I will not cover a split at the bolt hole if you over tightened  the bolt.  Snug means squishing out the adhesive and stopping when the plate contacts the deck.  It should not be loose, but not 1 or 2 grunts tight.

I will not cover any skid that you did not use an approved adhesive.  Current list is Shoe Goo and Gorilla glue.

If you find another glue that works, let me know and I will update this list.
