Installation Instructions

Installation Warning

Do not use your drill or screw gun to tighten screws.  This WILL split the skid plate.  Only use a hand phillips screw driver.

Do not skate without having used adhesive.  Set it up at night before bed and allow the adhesive (not included) to cure.  The adhesive will add strength and prevent skid plate buzzing or splitting.

Tools Needed:

  • Sand paper

  • #2 Phillips Screw Driver

  • Drill for drilling Deck.

  • 3/16" drill bit

  • 1/4" drill bit

  • Adhesive (glue) see below.

Deck Prep recommended.

Using sandpaper or spare grip tape, lightly sand the graphic film directly under the skid plate.

Skid Placement

Skid plate should be placed 1/4" -  3/8" from edge of tail.  Start with one hole only:  Use pencil/pen to mark one hole then use a 3/16" drill bit to make a pilot hole.  Remove skid.

Then use a 1/4" drill bit to make the hardware hole in the deck and install 1 panda nut (do not use screw gun or drill with phillips head to tighten).

Lightly snug the skid plate with 1 screw, loose enough to pivot and mark your second hole.

STOP BEFORE DRILLING AGAIN.

CHANGE THE BIT BACK TO 3/16".   Again, use a 3/16" drill bit to make a pilot hole.  You can use the skid plate as your guide.  Warning, do not use the 1/4" bit on the skid plate.  After drilling the 3/16" pilot hole, swing the skid out of the way and use a 1/4" drill bit to make the hardware hole in the deck. Install a panda nut and snug up the second screw for a mock installation.  Once you are satisfied with placement, remove the skid plate to add adhesive.

Use Adhesive!

ShoeGoo, Gorilla Glue (read the instructions), etc.  Place a thin bead of adhesive from left to right across the skid.  Alternating left and right screws, Re install the skid plate and snug it down by hand.

DO NOT over tighten or you might split the the skid.  Snug means squishing out the adhesive and stopping when the plate contacts the deck.  It should not be loose, but not 1 or 2 grunts tight.

Wipe off any excess glue that might have squished out.  Let the adhesive completely cure per adhesive instructions.

Use and Bedding the skid plate:

Use and Bedding the skid plate:  Bamboo skids are thicker (1/2" up to 9/16").  This may affect your ollie angle at first.  You may wish to "bed in" the skid plate.  A 50' drag on polished asphalt or 20' on nasty grippy concrete will help.  Once the grind surface of the skid gets wider, it will wear slowly.
